Antinori Brunello di Montalcino Pian delle Vigne 2008
|Appellation||Brunello di Montalcino|
Wine EnthusiastThe Antinori family's Brunello estate has seen ups and downs in terms of wine consistency over the past five years. But 2008 delivers an honest and nicely concentrated expression that seems to benefit beautifully from the slightly warmer temperatures in its lower altitude vineyards. Dark chocolate, cherry fruit and barbecue spice appear on the finish.
Wine SpectatorFloral and raspberry aromas and flavors pick up tobacco, soy and briar components in this intense, wiry red. Lean, yet remains persistent and well-balanced, leaving a trail of spice and mineral accents. Best from 2016 through 2032. 1,750 cases imported.
Wine AdvocateThe 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Pian delle Vigne presents a plump, fruit-forward style with bold cherry notes that are laced with balsam herb, licorice, sweet almond, dried ginger and tobacco leaf. The wine's acidity appears on the palate but the overall ripeness of the fruit suggests this will be an early-maturing wine. Drink: 2015-2021.
